Shalya Tantra

Shalya Tantra is a specialized branch of Ayurveda that deals with surgical techniques and the management of physical injuries and diseases requiring operative intervention. The term “Shalya” refers to foreign bodies, surgical instruments, or causes of pain, and “Tantra” means treatment or technique. This branch covers the diagnosis and treatment of wounds, abscesses, fractures, dislocations, tumors, and other surgical conditions. It also includes guidance on pre- and post-operative care, anesthesia (referred to as Anesthesia with herbs or oils in classical texts), and techniques to minimize complications.
